Scare Tube?

Left to Right: Beetlejuice, Michael Myers, Samara (The Ring), Hell-Raiser, Leather-Face(Texas Chainsaw Massacre), Jason Voorhees, Scream, and Freddy Krueger

So Halloween is on its way and most of us love to dress up and imitate these legendary killers (above). So instead of calling it You Tube, why not call it Scare Tube, for this Halloween?

I need a bit more clarity on what we're suppose to do

I get the annotated bibliography I believe and I've chosen Social Media to cover
but are we suppose to chose something specific? like a sub category for what we're covering?
Like Social Media and how it affects teenagers or How Social Media has effected a generation? Something like that?

Social networking and you!

This School Friendship Network plot is from a website called www.visualcomplexity.com. Created by James Moody in 2001, it represents  how students of different races associate themselves within certain networks. Here is a description from the website about this project.

Friendship network of children in a US school. Friendships are determined by asking  the participants, and hence are directed, since A may say that B is their friend but not  vice versa. Vertices are color coded according to race, as marked, and the split from left to right in the figure is clearly primarily along lines of race. The split from top to bottom is between middle school and high school, i.e., between younger and older children.

The colors of the dots in this image represent the following races.
Yellow - White Race
Green - Black Race
Pink - Other

How would you rationalize the splits that occur between ages and races in this plot? How is this plot similar or dissimilar to your online networks? How else could you group together the members of your social network?

Have any of you ever used Topix?

I just read this article in the New York Times about social media. Looks like social media has infiltratated our rural towns! I'd love to know any connections you see between this article and how you use social media in New York City.

I LOVE MY ENGLISH 101 CLASS !!!!

Dear Classmates and my English teacher,

Before I go to sleep, I just want to get this off my chest. This is my honest opinion about you guys. So far , I see us as a team  trying to solve a problem. In order to solve a problem in the action world,we must solve the problems at school first. I LOVE YOU GUYS, I really do. Everytime I come to english class, I feel so calm, stress free, and happy.  Even though we don't know each other that well, I sense a positive, great vibe from you guys. What makes me even more happy, is seeing all of us reaching for the same goal....Success. Once again I love you guys and Mr. Navarro you are my best teacher so far in college. Thank You for your wonderful, laid back personality. Well, goodnight. Have a nice and safe weekend everyone.
Since DBZ was brought up i'd thought i'd share

My Classmates, remember Dragon Ball Z ? Well, they sing along quite well to reggae music.

LOL.......I LOVE IT!!!!

What about Robots being created in the future?

robot
So while I was sitting in the train, I saw an ad about metro cards. It stated,"Have your metro card refill automatically each month, linked to your credit or debit card". My whole point of bringing this up,is that I feel that soon our economy will be more of a dependent economy than how it is today. We the people, will be dependent more on technology, in which we will no longer self-serve as much. But wait, if technology is so smart (personification), why can't we have robots?Better yet, I-Robots? That would be so cool, right classmates? But who will run the world.........?

Remix Video:

The remix video I chose was a remake of the Insepction movie trailer.  I chose this video because when I first saw this I thought what they did to the movie trailer was pretty cool.  The video was redone with a voice over.  All the voices and sounds as well were done by one man.  This video was not only pretty cool, but also funny because of the way the man made the sounds from his voice. I think all the sound effects worked well with the video and while switching from video to video I got confused to which one was the original.  All the voice over work was on point with how the actors mouth moved. What I found pretty interesting is that the remix vidoe screen was flipped/mirrored from the original.

remix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPNNKRJ-qr4

the remix i found was an outrageous video from the news. the bizarre woman that fought with the McDonald's employers shows how crazy people in this world are. i was trying to understand why would a young woman would do this and the remix proves that she has no excuse she is just plain psycho. sometimes i get annoyed when i want a chicken wrap at their breakfast hours in my breaks at college but i don't fight anyone. the video shows that we have to be patient and normal and that it wasn't the workers fault, its their job. i come across many remixes daily and we need to watch them and see how other people criticize others people's behavior and work.

Blame it REMIX video! =]

Original

This remix is a way of connecting with humans because the person doing this remix is using a form of comedy through the internet to get his view of the president across. In other words, he takes what the president has said and interprets it in a parody in order to get his point of view across in a very entertaining way. Personally, I come in contact with remixes on a daily basis because I am constantly looking up videos and funny parodies come up therefore, I check them out and find some of them absolutely hilarious. Alphacat is one of my favorite actors because he uses real facts about the president and his speeches and puts it into the songs that are popular at the moment.

"BED INTRUDER" ORIGINAL AND REMIX

Original:

BED INTRUDER SONG!!! (now on iTunes)

Remix:

Annoying Orange - Kitchen Intruder (Extended Version)

Well, obviously we have here an Annoying Orange - "Kitchen Intruder" metaphorically  compared to the original "Bed Intruder" by Antoine Dodson. In the "Kitchen Intruder" song, the Orange is Antoine Dodson and the Nectarine is his sister who got attacked by the Knife, which symbolizes the intruder. The fruits being portrayed as certain characters from a real life situation is entertaining. It is hilarious and creative how You Tube users give things we eat human qualities, also known as personification. I love the "Kitchen Intruder" version as well as the original "Bed Intruder" version. Both versions send out a message that humans, as well as objects ,can have dangerous traits. They must be controlled and stopped. Stop the intruder, but also control the knife."SO YOU CAN RUN AND TELL THAT , RUN AND TELL THAT , RUN AND TELL THAT, ATTACKERS, ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACKERS."(My little lyrical Remix) :)

Music Videos

Remix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n38WsJz7sgY

I chose this because all of the other good videos were taken! No but really I thought it was very creative on how these people make other words rhyme to the song. The elements that were used in this video that made it most effective was the setting it took place. The original and the remix both take place at dance clubs so you see the similarities in the video. The remix differs from the original in that the remix's audio is much different. They basically take all of the words from the original song and make them into funnier and more childish lyrics.

Kanye- Obama Remix

original-http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PsO6ZnUZI0g&ob=av2e

I chose a remix of Kanye West's Stronger, in which some one put in sound-bytes of President Obama. I chose this remix because I think it is very funny, and I think it is cool how someone was able to find sound-bytes to remake the song to the beat. The way that I often see remixes is in the music industry. Many remixes include the original artist with other artist added to the same song.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M0p6i6-a9Wk - Remix video

I chose this video because everyone can relate to having a moment like this. everyone has had that moment in their life where they’ve embarrassed themselves. The only difference here is many people have seen her embarrassing moment

original

remix

Remix videos are mostly used for humor and to make fun of whatever the original is. In this video , they are making fun of the "sham wow" commercial and calling it the "jesus christ sponge". The original is just trying to sell a product that is pretty dumb. By making a parody about it , it basically shows the stupidity of the product. The commercial became known because it played on tv way too often and people started making videos making fun of it. I chose this video because I found it funny and I felt the impression it was trying to give off was pretty clear.

How to Love

original -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y8Gf4-eT3w0&ob=av2e

remix - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OR2fUC3Cowo

I chose this remix because its just amazing how people could take an idea and make it into something funny. This video was taken from one of Lil Wayne's love video and turned into a video about loving Pizza Hut. The video was well put together and actually promotes Pizza Hut's food. I think that  this video works in a way of promotion more than being funny or anything else. It also has nothing to do with the original song even though it has the same beats.

I Phone parody

I chose an I Phone parody as my video.  I chose this parody because I was looking for a video that targets advertising and I wanted to see what type of videos people could create. This videos purpose was for them to sarcastically be over enthused about getting the new I phone and then at the end you find out that this I phone is literally a phone that’s an eye. I found this video a little much but I think this connects us as humans because we can come up with creative ideas of our own make a quick video and share it with millions on the internet. This makes us closer than ever, that I can view the creativity of someone I have never met and laugh with them. I come into contact with remix’s a lot of the time through music.

REMIXXX =]

Remix-
This is based on the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet- So that would be the "original."

A remix in music is usually something new added to the original song, it can be examples such as a new underlying beat, a faster tempo or a added new verse by a different artist. In this case, the "remix" or twist of the video is that it takes a very tragic situation, makes it humorous and ironically, accurate, even though the humor is really stupidity at it's finest. This remix can be a way of connecting with humans in that it is somewhat enticing to us. Not only is it entertaining and funny, it uncovers a new view of the situation, not necessarily a good view, but a different view none the less. In a sense, it kind of provides an escape or a relief from the actual drama and sadness of it all. These may be the reasons why this remix provides a connection with people and why they would watch it. I don't often come in contact with remixes in my daily life.

hw. remix

remix - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pg9x-5oS9Z0

I chose this video because i believe its stupidly-funny. This video is a remix to a song made by an artist named "chip the ripper". This video is an example on how people can do something so simple and make it into something that's the "talk of the town". This video has nothing. its repetitive and its pointless; that's what makes this video so great.

Fight Club Parody

Original

Parody

I usually don't watch any remixes, so for me it was hard to find something that would be decent and appropriate at the same time. I chose a parody called "Cuddle Club" on a movie "Fight Club". I picked this parody because "Fight Club" is one of my favorite movies and "Cuddle Club" is a complete opposite of the original movie, but yet it follows the same story line. The one thing that makes this parody successful is that the characters in the parody, pretty much used the same lines as in the movie. Even tho the parody did not get viral, it still shows us that internet allows people to be creative and do what the love to do.

Remix Hw#5

Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQSNhk5ICTI

Remix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByIAseO8RFA

I picked this remix out because I thought that this showed a perfect example of how people overreact to things that supposedly have special meaning to them . The original  video "Yosemitebear Mountain Giant Double Rainbow 1-8-10",  got 30,322,073 views just on this special occurrence that he managed to catch on video. The remix that I choose "Adventure Time:Rainicorn" was able to bring people together through comedy. This cartoon show saw a way to make a mockery out of how over exaggerated his reaction was,and ran with it as a way of being humorous by reenacting it with cartoon characters. I come into contact with remixes almost everyday day, either through songs that I listen to or shows that I watch on TV.

Remix

When I think of remixes I think about music and how they add a new artist to sing or rap to a song. Most of the time the remix does make the music better because it is the same song but has different twist or feeling to it, the remix is suppose to enhance the song and make it better than the original. In youtube when they make a remix to some thing it is usually changing what the message is or changing the visual aspect of the video to seem more funnier or more interesting than the original. The remix usually has the same visual but the sounds are different or what is being said has changed or it can be another way around like in the video that changes the image of President Obama.

The Real Street Fighter

This video is another video of a real situation remixed with street fighter sounds. This remix has brought the community of Youtube together. It has brought them together by changing a serious situation and changing it into something everyone can laugh about. Many comments consists of the game characters and the baby getting "P0wned". I personally come into remixes all the time. When me and my friends are together, we remix songs with our own lyrics and put them on Facebook. Every time I am on Youtube I run into parodies which are remixes in themselves.

Sarcastic gamer said, "Wii fit looks great with anything from Ikea."  I was going to do my homework on a  song but I searched parody's on youtube and this came up.  I thought it was hilarious because everything he's saying is so true.  People expected this to be some cool new way to get in shape but like he said your either moving side to side or pretending to hula hoop.  People spend over 300 dollars on a "step up on the white thing."

Trailer Parody

Remix

Original

I chose this video to share because although not necessarily funny to some, I loved how they made their own costumes and used what they had around them and the places they had access to to make this video. And although with only 370,000 views, I think this is effective because it shows that if you put your mind to it and a little creativity with friends you can make something that people might consider watching. From quickly skimming through the comments most people seemed to have enjoyed it and have each found a part they loved.

Obama on Death of Osama bin Laden

I chose this remix because I think it is important to people to know that Osama Bin Lade is dead! thanks to Barack Obama. Also is good to know that at least Obama did something about terrorism and the ex-President Bush didn't do nothing at all; that's let people to talk about. This video is fantastic because President Obama is celebrating the death of the biggest/dangerous terrorist Osama Bin Laden. The United State is safe and people can sleep well without worrying about Bin Laden. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1fw8poc3-5s

Teenage Dream - Katy Perry

Original:                                                                                                                                                           Remix:                                                                                                                                                                          I have to give props to Brittani Louise Taylor for being able to turn such a spunky fun party song into a song so morose. Both versions are simply beautiful, but the fact that a girl who looks like she could be living in my neighborhood, looks like she could be my friend, and looks like the rest of us non-celebrities makes her parody really stick out to me. Brittani Louise Taylor is a regular person just like us, she doesn't have a recording studio and high tech equipment to make her song sound good, but she made it apparent through a great message and theme. This remix works because it basically has the same catchy melody as the original but with a deeper significance, significance towards the death of somebody close. Everybody goes through this at some point in their life so it's definitely relatable.                                                                                                                                                          Piano Renditions of the Original:                                                                                                                                                                          Just thought I'd share with those who might like the piano. I find this piece more relaxing from the original, still fun. It's really cool how a song can be interpreted in so many ways.                                                                                                                                                          And for the Ladies in Class ;)                                                                                                                                                                          haha, You know you love it.

You're Beautiful- James Blunt

Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oofSnsGkops

Remix: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CeAWESP7THs&feature=related

Weird Al Yankovic is the MASTER of remix to famous songs. I chose James Blunts' music video "You're Beautiful". It's a beautiful song stating that every individual is valued no matter what you do or how you look. However, Weird Al makes a parody of the video. He goes the complete opposite saying "You're Pitful". He states how ugly, poor and smelly you are. I found it hilarious. I also found it creative how he can take someone's lyrics and switch them around. I think the lyrics work in the video but I would of like to seen him do the video himself instead of a cartoon. I love the fact that Weird Al makes money off of making fun of people's song. I think it's pure genius!

FRIDAY!

Probably one of the most viewed video on Youtube, Rebecca Black's "Friday" music video.  The original was deleted because many of the mean comments that people were making.  It had 167 million views and 3.1 million dislikes, the most among any youtube video.  She became an internet sensation over night.  The only other person to do this and be this bad, Soulja Boy.  Almost every day I come in contact with remixes:  in the subway when performers play their versions of songs and when I listen to the radio in my car.

Retarded Test Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yc86ZXFsriM

This video has a total of about three million views.  This is based on college humor and is intended for people with a sense of humor.  One thing that makes this video effective is the quality, the picture is not bad at all.  Although this video didn’t use many resources or heavy equipment, it looked professional, making user generated content just as effective and even more effective than professionally produced videos. This pointless video is an example of how effective UGC can be, you don’t have to be a top TV channel or sales company to have millions of view for something. If this video was produces by traditional media it’ll probably have a higher quality because there would be more money put into making the video and the views would be about the same, not much of a difference.  Also the video may be boring and they’d decide to cut a few things out because they’d be scared of a bad reputation.

This honestly has to be one of my favorite videos iv'e ever seen in my entire life. It's a parody so it obviously wasn't really shot like how a real rap battle would go down. They main character "SupaHotFire" says the most random dumbest things and somehow his boys get hype to it. It gained almost 2 million views. It's amazing how a bunch of teens could just brainstorm a general comedy and somehow shift it into a random rap battle. Its extremely effective and the reason the video became so successful is because it instantly catches the attention of the audience and keeps them hooked throughout the entire video. My favorite party was definitely the end when he just spits random noises out that make no sense what so ever and his crew goes completely insane. If it was to be portrayed on a TV channel I think some aspects that might have been changed might have been like where the rap battle actually took place or maybe some funny looking characters.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZkdcYlOn5M&feature=related

As my user generated video I chose Bon Qui Qui at King Burger.  Having 49,409,792 views this video is effective.  Having started off with this video and having made multiple videos after that also have a lot of hits also makes it an effective video.  Her selection of videos were made to make people laugh.  While looking at some of the comments, some people thought the video wasn’t funny at all.  If it was made into a TV channel I think it would be similar to Good Burger or the 90s shows with Keenan and Kel.  There would still be a lot of views but not as much as there would be when its on youtube.

Drummers

This man actually inspired me to start playing the drums. I wanted to see good drummers on YouTube but he just stands out so much. I believe his drum covers of certain songs are better than the originals! He is very famous on YouTube and I believe his drumming is very effective because it probably inspired many people to start drumming. He has close to a million views on about 60 videos he produced. If this was on traditional T.V. I believe this would be very similar to songs on MTV. This man is truly gifted and if it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't be posting drum videos on YouTube today.

Andy Milonakis ( Lose The War)(reggae)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z67wxUjiNZA&feature=relmfu
This video is a great example of how fame can be found on the internet. Andy Milonakis produced many videos viewed by thousands of people around the world. It is effective because he does best, making funny videos. Hes expressing himself in a way he wouldn't be able to do in person and if effective at it, having many fans who watch his videos. I think that if this was produced by "traditional" media it wouldn't be as funny. It shows where the talent is coming from and no one is playing anyone's role. Andy produced and play in his own part in the video. On "traditional" media, the video probably would've been censored.

Homework

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YersIyzsOpc

A user-generated video I chose is the World of Warcraft freak out. The effectiveness of this video is clearly shown by the amount of views it made, which is over fifty million. This person who uploaded the video had the intended goal of entertaining his viewers, and he succeeded. The fact that this is a video of a boy throwing a huge tantrum for the littlest thing and then proceeds to harm himself, can make a person wonder how it can be so popular? The simple answer being: we as a society love drama. Just look at the number of reality T.V. shows there are, an easy example being The Jersey Shore. Many people will argue that they hate drama, but the reality is that without it, we'd all be bored with our lives. This is a boy having a fit, making  a scene and we're watching it!

On the other hand, if this were to be produced by "traditional" media, say a T.V. channel then it would not be as big a hit as it has become. The media would see how popular it is in the beginning and insist on replaying it over again, causing people to get tired of it pretty quickly. It would die down and people wouldn't be as big a fan of it as they are now. As a classmate had mentioned, the internet gives people the choice to view something when they want, and as little or as much as they want. Putting it in the hands of traditional media will take away people's choice in viewing the video and therefore ruining the fun and enjoyment of it as well.

Peter"s UGC Vid

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQezi0Hxql0

Let me start off by saying this was not my first choice of content to pick, but everything else I was gonna use is filled with curses. The video is a parody of Nelly's "Just a Dream" named I have to pee. The beat is the same but the words and the point of the song are completely different. The only point for the video is to be funny and it is effective in that. Usually putting younger kids in videos make it funnier and this video may not be as funny, if it was an adult. It would be nearly impossible to publish this kind of content on television. For it to be published it would be extremely costly and reproduced.

BED INTRUDER!!!!!!!! YOU ARE REALLY DUMB, FOR REAL!

Well, obviously, we have many rapists all over New York City. In this video, Antoine Dodson announced to the news that a bed intruder has climbed through the window of his family's apartment and tried to attack his sister. This story has in fact been reported on television, before the Gregory brothers turned Antoine's statement into a hit making song, now available on i-Tunes. The purpose of this video was to send a message to the intruder, that he will get caught. Overall, this video is effective, because it shows the courage of one person, who was not afraid to speak out about an intruder who is attacking people and has to be stopped. Antoine has stated to everyone to "hide their kids, hide their wife, and hide their husbands, because the rapist is getting everyone." His hilarious comments are helpful to those who live in his neighborhood, as well as those living anywhere else.

As a result, Antoine has become famous for this bed intruder song, has now a halloween costume out, and finally got his family out from where his sister was attacked. I love this video so much, that I had to replay it over and over again. I also showed my family members over and over again. If Antoine comes out with an album, with this song on it, I will definitely buy it the day it comes out. I wish to meet him in person one day. Remember,"You don't have to come and confess, we looking for you ,we gonna find you, we gonna find you, so you can run and tell that, run and tell that, run and tell that, homeboy, home, home, homeboy!

                                                                                                                         - Antoine Dodson

My Video =]

This video is not ridiculously funny but I find funny the way he dances. Anyway, this video is effective in that it shows freedom of speech and it relates back to what we discussed in class about the internet being a form in which we can practice this right. In this video, Alphacat, the person playing President Barack Obama, uses the internet to make a video in which he makes fun of the president and of the things he promised when he was running for the position. If this video were produced by "traditional" media such as a television channel, I think there would be a lot of criticism good and bad not to mention how much money he would be making from it. Moreover, there would be a lot of debate as to whether it is okay for him to have done this or not. Despite all however, I believe it's a good video and a perfect example of how we can use the internet in order to practice freedom of speech.

I chose this video "Don't Fit in if you want to stand out." The name pretty much sums up the main idea of the video. Though it may not be as entertaining and funny as the videos my classmates posted, it is very motivational and in my opinion, just plain true and relatable,we try to hard to fit in when we are born to stand out.  Which I think makes the video VERY effective. I honestly don't even think that this video would be produced by "traditional" media, because it goes against the norm, it promotes uniqueness, which I think is completely contrary to what media promotes. All I see in in the media being promoted are things like style, and technology, just to name two. All I hear is a silent voice that that screams, "THIS IS WHAT PEOPLE ARE WEARING, THIS IS WHAT IS "IN-STYLE," YOU NEED TO BE BUYING AND WEARING THESE ARTICLES OF CLOTHING, OR YOU WILL BE CATEGORIZED AS DIFFERENT!" "IF YOU DONT BUY THIS NEW GADGET YOU WILL BE LOST IN THE WORLD!" Even television shows do it subliminally, you see a character you love, you love their style, or personality. This is enough to make you want to conform to how they are or how they look, i'll admit, I do it to an extent.  That is the kind of world we live in, a big world of conformity where uniqueness is yearned for.

H.W.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWUtywfwsMw&feature=fvwp&NR=1

As I went through youtube, I found this to be one of the most powerful videos I have seen in awhile. It is effective because it gives a message out to the public. It shows the effect that grown-ups have on children. The message is that whatever you're doing, whether it's drugs, alcohol, or violence, one day your actions might reflect your child's behavior as the grow up. I don't see this video as ineffective. I think the media would show this on television because it is a very strong and somewhat disturbing ad. However, it will make you think twice about what you do in front of the younger generation.

Zangief Kid vs The Rat

This is a user generated video which twists a news story of a bully, beaten by the bullied. Chose this video because I find it HILARIOUS,enjoy. This video is effective because it has a twist on how people see the news. This is ineffective due to the fact it strays away from the point of the story and changing it into a complete comedy. I can't imagine this video on regular television. If it were on T.V. they would probably try extend it for longer than it needs to be. Media is not comfortable with just a one hit wonder.
I picked a Jenna Marble video , "how to trick people into thinking you're good looking".  This video has been viewed by a lot people. The video is effective in the way that teenagers and young adults can laugh at the irony of how girls make themselves look pretty. Now a days we see the youth wearing make up and dressing older than they are. Jenna Marble is pointing it out in a humorous way and even speaking about how she herself can fit the "pretty" standards. If this was produced by a media TV channel it probably wouldn't be as funny. The reason why people watch these sorts of videos because they can relate and can see themselves doing this video. People don't want scrips and actors and other nonsense. They want real life people, people doing it themselves and real life issues. The video would be a high quality and not jumping from scene to scene but thats what makes the video unique and make viewers watch it.

Potter Puppet Pals :)

The song is quite catchy so you can say its effective to some extent. Were this video produced by "traditional" media, it would probably have low ratings or something and would be taken down. Even though it shows a significantly higher number of likes than dislikes, its most likely cause people have a choice on what they view on youtube and not on traditional media.

Looking for a video..........a funny one

Epic Meal Time

I chose an episode from "Epic Meal Time", because it shows that internet allows anyone to create their own videos and shows. This video might be effectice to some viewers, but to others a complete opposite. I find their videos funny and unique, because they show how they cook food in huge quantities, while making funny comments. If it was produced by a traditional media, I doubt it would even make it to the TV, because the amount of calories they have in those meals makes them walking heart attacks waiting to happen. With that said lots of people would critize them and the show would not even be able to make it to the big screen, but since it's a user-generated content, millions of people follow it and support it.

Anti Drug Dog

http://youtu.be/x_t8DvM2kX8
The anti-drug dog video is a user generated video, it is based on a real commercial about teenage smoking.  The video is making fun at the concept of the original commercial of having a dog talk to a teenage girl thats is clearly under the influence in the first place. The video can be seen as ineffective since     the purpose of the video is for entertainment and humor rather than sending a message not to do drugs. The video and the real commercial that aired a few years back are different because the commercial made by anti drug company was shorter and not that funny also the user generated video had cursing in it and was longer.

Minesweeper The Movie

I choose this user-generated video because it goes to show how everyday people can come together and make something just as well as someone in the movie business can. I thin kit's effective because it's a great laugh, that serious business yet funny. If it was produced by "traditional" media I don't believe it would be viewed the same because it's the usual people making it and they even profit from it.

Sand Sicaf Video

The "Sand Sicaf" video is an example  of the type of video that was popular on the internet before "you tube" was created. Today, this would be seen as an ineffective video as it only has roughly 11,000 views, whereas videos of people falling or singing badly get over a million. I feel it represents what I was saying about creativity becoming somewhat lost in exchange for entertainment value.

Slap Chop

I chose the video "Jamacian Slap Chop."  It is a parody of the original Slap Shop commercial.  It is the original footage with a Jamacian man speaking over the video and making funny comments.  This video could be viewed as both effective and ineffective to others, but mostly I would say adults that are straight forward and have no sense of humor would consider this ineffective.  When I first saw this video, I was laughing like crazy.  The Jamacian guy makes many funny remarks although some are obscene, they are none the less quite funny to me.  If companies such as AT&T took over the internet and charged individuals another monthly fee, user generated content could possibly be on the road to extinction; the only people able to afford internet would be the millionaires and big businesses.

Enjoy the video! :-)

Antiqued Eyes Video Review hw4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T_NQd4FmFwc , The user generated content that  I chose from YouTube is a "How To Makeup Tutorial". This video can be viewed as being both effective and ineffective, for instance it is effective because she is giving amateurs a tutorial on how to do eye shadow. But it is also ineffective because the video is fast forwarded at an extremely fast pace, and her audio quality is extremely low. If this video were produced by a TV channel  the audio quality would have a much richer sound. The tutorial would have been produced at a much normal pace to the point where make up novices could see what steps she took to achieve the overall look. Another flaw to her video would be the demonstration she did on her self as oppose to doing it on an individual, so the viewers could get the full effect of what she is teaching. Although she lists down what products she used, she should have verbally stated what the products were, also where you could purchase the products, and the alternative brands that could be used so you could achieve the same exact look.

I've been Discovered :[

The item i chose was my bracelet. It is a plain yellow gold bracelet that my grandmother gave me as a gift when i was a child. She bought it in Nusco, Italy , her birthplace. After her trip to Italy she went to Argentina for vacation, the birthplace of my mother. You see, this bracelet is just more than a simple piece of jewelry to me, it represents the migration route my ancestors took . It stands for my culture and who I am today. When I wear it I just feel more connected with my family and where they came from.

Your comments from 9/6

The process of writing down original ideas based on our thoughts, feelings and the work of others is what effective writing is all about. I asked you to think about four things after last class:

1. Recall what you wrote in class about the object in your life you value.
2. Think about how is this object connected (or not) to what you wrote in your "A day in the life of my Internet Usage" assignment?
3. Read United Nations Declares Internet Access a Basic Human Right
4. Watch and the Youtube video Humanity Lobotomy - Second Draft.

How are these four very different (yet similarly related items) connected? This is not an easy question to answer. However, these are the sorts of questions we have to learn to answer. Below are five responses from our blog. (Thanks everyone!) Please pick one and look for how your classmate attempted to connect these ideas together. Please write a response to your classmate's post. Make sure to highlight their connections and to expand their answers to include a synthesis of these four bits of information. Please save this writing for your midterm portfolio.

The object of value that I chose was my phone because it not only helps me stay organized but it is a good source of entertainment as well. My phone allows me to have access to the internet which I use on a daily basis and most of the time to share things or see what's going on with people on facebook. Having said that, the intertnet is a good way to stay in touch with the world and see what's happening with everyone on a daily basis. From the readings, I concluded that they all agree that the internet is harmless and it's just another way people can share opinions about different topics. People get a chance to be "critics" like Matt said in the discussion on TED. In other words, the internet allows us to use our freedom of speech and say whatever we want whenever we want without thinking of the consequences. Finally, it is giving us power to criticize other people's work which can possibly lead them to get the wrong idea from our criticism.

I picked a blackberry as my valued possession. My blackberry is a critical device in my internet usage. I do almost all of my internet browsing through my cell phone and i very rarely go on my desktop. I feel that the internet is needed. Obviously I am not the only person that feels that way, that is shown in the Youtube video where people are outraged about the possibility of a limited internet.I think freedom of speech is one of our most important rights and the phone companies limiting the internet would stop us from expressing ourselves. We are able to express ourselves online which is contributing to the end of critics. Before the internet critics were a big part of controlling what made it to the public and what people saw. Now with the internet anybody can criticize anything and anyone could publish anything. That would be impossible without social outlets like Youtube or Facebook.

I said i valued my cellphone and in the assignment i wrote that my cellphone was the alternative to what the internet would regularly provide, communication. I'm not exactly interested in whether the internet is made a basic human right since i don't feel the need to express myself on a wide range. If anything, i think I'd be better off without the internet. I have books, speech and a cellphone. Those three things aren't restricted or limited to me in anyway. I do think that people have become a tad bit more creative than before the internet, but not much. Before people followed all these etiquette rules and what was popular. There were guidelines to what was proper. We'd only like to think we have an opinion but in reality our opinion is molded by mainstream culture and thats just inevitable. SO the internet promotes this small group of "molders"-"critics" and all we can say is "that looks/sounds like crap" or "that sounds weird, let me listen to it again, i think i like it a little". But when it comes right down to it, it doesnt matter.

My coin purse has little to no affect of my daily Internet usage. The only time it would have some affect is if I had to move it from my keyboard. The article about the Internet becoming a human right is quite interesting. Being that the Internet is the first thing I turn to when I wake up it would be just criminal to take it away. Then going to my Louis Vuitton coinpurse, though it isn't something the world sees as a human right, I am entitled to the item that I hold just as close as the Internet. When people tried to take the freedom away from people using the Internet I would feel the same way. When I saw that fifteen year old cry I couldn't help but feel his pain. During the time I was never aware of this situation. I can't imagine having to pay a monthly fee on things like YouTube and Facebook. The Internet for sure has created several critics. I could write a Facebook status asking if final destination 5 is a must see and some one will give me ab opinion I can relate to. Most paid critics don't cater to my movie decisions, but that kid in my English class sure could help me out a lot more.

The object I value most are my glasses. Without them, I would never be able to see the anything. It helps me explore the world. They help me connect with my family members and allow me to read and do my homework. I think that we shouldn't be critics for the way we express ourselves on the internet.
