Dance-Music Remix

Remix:

Original videos that went into the remix:

What the creator pretty much did in this remix was take UGC and completely different songs and merged it into some sort of dance battle. The music was so well synchronized to the dancers' movements in the remix, that I didn't expect there to be originals until the second time around that I watched it.  In the remix not only was the message and content contorted, but the audio served to create something original rather than just copying the original videos into one video. The intention of the remix-er was to compare "tecktonik" and "shuffle" dance styles and probably spark an argument. It's a purpose unlike the original creators', who probably made the video to display their moves to the world. The remix-er alone (or not so alone) created something that had a significant higher number of views than the original videos had, meaning it was far more successful than the originals.

Cyber Bullying - supermac18

This video is by Mac Guttenberg, titled "Cyber Bullying". It shows that the internet has its ups and downs. Ups being able to communicate with others easily, and downs by being able to tease an individual before thousands of people. Through the web, there isn't a great sense of tone and others may interpret a response the wrong way. One wrong idea may slowly devour the mind of the victim, and in this case lead to death. There are many commercials about cyber bullying on television which sends out the same message but the way Mac illustrated it was more compelling. Like, I was a consistent viewer of his channel and I watched him develop more every video. So, to see that he brought up such a subject seemed legit and it showed that he cared. I think Mac's version of cyber bullying should be up there with the rest of the commercials because he has the music that adds the dramatic sense of the video, he is using the latest technology most people would have, and it truly brings out the point of the video.

Do you love your iPhone?

"As we embrace new technology that does everything but kiss us on the mouth, we risk cutting ourselves off from human interaction. For many, the iPhone has become a best friend, partner, lifeline, companion and, yes, even a Valentine. The man or woman we love most may be seated across from us in a romantic Paris bistro, but his or her 8GB, 16GB or 32GB rival lies in wait inside our pockets and purses."

You Love Your iPhone. Literally.

Surface level and hidden meanings in UGC: Do you know how to look at content critically?

The following images are examples of different forms of user-generated content. One is a piece of artwork, the other is a photograph of a banner, and the last image is a digital image that was created utilizing online sources.

When you look at this image, what do you see? Think about the differences between literal meaning and hidden meaning. What do you understand about this image? Do you recognize the charaters in the image? Do you recognize the setting represented in the image? How does this image represent what is produced, consumed and accepted (or rejected) by your culture?

What do you see in this image? How is this an example of user-generated content? How is it vastly different from the user-generated content produced on Youtube or on Facebook? Are there any literal and hidden meanings? If so, what are they? What sort of background information does one need to possess in order to read and understand the image (and message) of this banner?

This is an image that appeared this weekend on my Facebook feed. Many of my friends were sharing it. A classic form of user-generated content, its producer is unknown yet this image/message/content has spread throughout the internet. What are the literal meanings in this image? What sort of statement is this message trying to convey? What are the specific steps that the producer is making to convey the message in this image?
